Guys I just downloaded the COD and it is NOT I repeat NOT ready. I have a vary high end rig and it plays this sim like, what would be a good word? starts with S and ends with T. Sorry but it's going to take a bit longer than two weeks to fix this POS.

Silverback, that is what we non-early-adopters need to hear!  I know it's a bit crap to have a downer on new stuff, but this release has been smelling a tad iffy for a while.  I'm holding fire til there's some patches - and I get a PC which will run the thing.  BTW I'm loving the effort you're putting into this Badger - an appraisal of this game from a proper player is much more valuable for a potential buyer than some mag's review

Thanks Ted

I've been through the original IL2 releases since 2002 and there's a pattern in the delivery which if you know make things less painfull.  There are some similarities here too; IL2 didn't get QMB till later, CoD doesn't yet have QMB but will.... etc.

Performance wise, it appears that 1946 issues with maps such as the Berlin offering with all it's buildings are amplifieid in CoD becuase there rendering performance needs working on and now the engine is not focusing on the buildings in an area the size of the Berlin map, but the south of England!

Buildings - For now set the building related switches to Low

Trees - have you seen the number of trees with the setting on high?!!!  Set it to Medium or Low

Silverback, with these settings you should be able to get an average of 25FPS.  There are recommendations to disable SLI because it's broken in the game, but I haven't bothered.

What I have also noticed is that the game runs better now that I've played it a few hours.  I'm not sure what is caching etc.

One thing we are being advised not to do (which may change) is fiddle with the ini files.

I'll post some screen shots later.

If you haven't already seen it, some very promising info from Luthier at the 1C forums:

Hi everyone. I’m very sorry to see that some of you are having technical difficulties with the game. It pains me personally to see that these problems are preventing you from enjoying everything the game has to offer.

The team has been working at a frantic pace since mid-summer. I personally have been working 12+ hour days 7 days a week pretty much non-stop, with only a short breather around Christmas. Optimization has always been our top priority; for example, the game you are playing now is roughly twice as fast as the version shown at Igromir.

We are continuing to work at the same pace now, after the release â€" no weekends in sight. We are working very hard to make the game better, and we hope that even those of you who are unhappy with the state of the game are still able to see that it is worth the wait, and that you have faith in our ability to improve on your experience.

Here’s what we are working on at the moment:

1. Performance increase. Over terrain, the two things that slow things down the most are trees and buildings. We are currently in final stages of testing optimized buildings that almost double the FPS over London on a test machine.
Tree optimization is a little farther away. You will probably see changes in how trees are rendered, they’ll take longer to appear over terrain, but once again, performance increase should be significant.
If everything tests correctly over the weekend, both of these should be released by early to mid next week.

2. Enhanced multicore support. The mode that we unfortunately were not able to finish in time is sending all render to a dedicated CPU core. The mode is working but somewhat buggy. It easily doubles the FPS, and the performance boost is especially noticeable in larger missions with lots of stuff going on.
This is probably at least two to three weeks away, and we will probably do a short public beta of this major change before it’s made live to everyone.

3. Multiplayer. There is something in steam filters that prevents game servers from being found. This is only happening with live retail versions of the game. This apparently isn’t caused by us â€" hopefully it’s just a simple oversight somewhere and the fix will be a simple flick of a switch.

4. FM and ballistics. We have already addressed the issue where rounds appeared to leave aircraft sideways. This was caused by the difference between physical and rendered position of the aircraft, i.e. the rendered position lagged behind the actual aircraft position.
Our aircraft programmer has a huge bucket list of things to check, which he’s going over at a rather brisk pace.

5. Resurrecting SLI support. This is our next biggest priority; it’s done by the same programmer now in final stages of optimizing buildings. We are really hoping this will be a quick task, but I don’t have an ETA at this point. It’ll either be a couple of days, or a much longer undetermined amount of time if we have to submit versions to card manufacturers and ask for their input.

6. Bug fixes and support. We are reading this forum a lot and some Russian-language forums, and working very hard to address all issues as they are being reported.

7. New stuff â€" larger online maps, some new aircraft such as the 109E1 and E4 etc â€" are all in the pipeline too, but obviously we need to solve the bigger issues first and then deal with the freebies.

Thank you all for your continuing support! Just FYI, I’m constantly doing 20 things at once, so if I don’t respond to your question it doesn’t mean I didn’t read it! I’d love to spend more time on the forums talking to the community and answering questions, but unfortunately I just cannot do it as much as I should at the moment. Please bear with us, we do really want to make all of you very happy!

In short - at least double to quadruple fps on multicore machines and further increases for those with Sli

Great info Fitz!

Bluey: Looking back at your spec you should be getting the same quality as on my pictures.  Turn down thos building and trees, set the AA to 4 and then step it up.  Let me know it goes!!  :)

Silverback: How's the config testing going?

Fitz: Have you got any further?

Toodles!

Good work Chaps!

The longer this takes, the more bargaining capital I have with Mrs. Conky to get a new pc! My chances have gone from absolutely out of the question to not bloody likely, so I thnk i'm wearing her down  :D :D :D.

My State Pension kicks in next year.....looking for a cheap Sinclair Spectrum on E-Bay.....I'm hoping the prices will drop as the Coomodore 64 is now selling well!

I have Space-Invaders and Pac-Man working well with 25FPS but "Tennis" is giving me issues.

I'd wait and see what the patches do Conky.  It may be that a minor part upgrade may be the trick if anything at all.  It all depends on how much you want out of the game - medium settings, high settings - UBER SETTINGS!!!!  AAAEEEEIIIII!!! ;) :D

As Fitz has posted, they seem to be working through the bug list, so all should be more visible shortly.

The new patch is installed but I had to reinstall the sim after (WTF).All in all the sim does work better now and there is some good work going on at Sim HQ , I may give their (Sim HQ,s) patch a try later. Always set the conf to match your CPU. Frame rates are good enough for combat over most of the map now. More to follow.

Did anyone else play the slide show that was spitfire 40 on the c64?  What a hard game that was!?

Agreedd SB - the frame rates seem to be better across the board, but not perfect for the 'improved engine'.  I've quickly cut a movie so will post it on Flickr shortly.

Hoping that everyone with CoD is getting something out of it.  :)  Chips at least!

I installed the new Bata patch from 1C yesterday and now the sim is what I would call a good bata. As in flyable on mostly high settings in all environments. The real patch will be out on Monday. If you use the bata patch be sure to remove the Sim HQ stuff.

The latest official Steam patch has improved the stutters being caused by the building rendering.  Prior to the fix the IL2 feature of rendering the builds as you approached them was being used, but now they appear on the most part en-mass and already 'there'.

I appreciate that players will want the detail settings on the high side across the board, but to be honest, just having the buildings there on 'low' is enough for effect.  They look presentable enough.

I've played with quite a few of the settings and the effect on gameplay, so will sort out a TS session to work through a bit of gameplay support for those who would like it.  Post to follow shortly.

My first impression of the 6DoF was favourable, but in combat I find it irritating as it seems to jump about.  Is this something I need to sort out via Freetrack or in the game?  I haven't found any menu options for head tracking in game.
